IN ADDITION, METHODS TO REMEDIATE PROBLEM BALLAST CONDITIONS TO PROVIDE MORE RELIABLE AND EFFECTIVE BALLAST MAINTENANCE WILL ALSO BE CONSIDERED. THESE AREAS MUST ALL BE LINKED TO ALLEVIATING PROBLEM BALLAST PERFORMANCE THAT CAN AFFECT TRACK PERFORMANCE OR IMPROVE THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY OF RAIL TRANSPORTATION, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING OIL TRAIN ROUTES AND OTHER HIGH RISK CORRIDORS OR COMMODITIES.
