CONGRESS MANDATED IN THE CLINICAL LABORATORY IMPROVEMENT AMENDMENTS OF 1988 (CLIA) THAT ANY LABORATORY THAT MEETS THE DEFINITION OF THE LAW MAY NOT ACCEPT ANY HUMAN SPECIMENS FOR LABORATORY EXAMINATION UNLESS THERE IS IN EFFECT A CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES (HHS) COVERING THE CATEGORIES OF PROCEDURES BEING PERFORMED. VARIOUS CERTIFICATES ARE AVAILABLE DEPENDENT UPON THE CONDITIONS MET. LABORATORIES CAN BE CERTIFIED FOR PERIODS OF UP TO 2 YEARS.FOR PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE FOR BASE YEAR (06/01/2016-05/31/2017)
